Introduction

Flexibility is an essential component of physical fitness and overall well-being. In modern lifestyles,
prolonged sitting, lack of movement, and stress contribute significantly to muscle stiffness and reduced mobility.
Yoga offers a natural and holistic approach to improving flexibility by combining physical postures with controlled breathing.

Unlike conventional stretching, yoga works on both muscular and neurological levels. It gradually increases the range of motion,
enhances posture, and improves circulation throughout the body. Over time, regular yoga practice helps release stored tension
in muscles and joints, allowing smoother and more efficient body movement.

In addition to physical benefits, flexibility training through yoga also promotes mental relaxation.
As the body opens up, the mind becomes calmer, leading to better focus, reduced anxiety, and improved emotional balance.

Important Yoga Poses for Flexibility

1. Downward-Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana): This pose provides a complete stretch to the entire body, especially the hamstrings, calves, shoulders, and spine. It also strengthens the arms and improves blood circulation.

2. Seated Forward Bend (Paschimottanasana): A deep stretching posture that targets the lower back, hamstrings, and spine. It encourages relaxation while improving flexibility.

3. Cat-Cow Pose (Marjaryasana–Bitilasana): This dynamic movement enhances spinal flexibility and relieves stiffness in the neck and back.

4. Low Lunge (Anjaneyasana): An effective pose for stretching hip flexors and improving lower body mobility.

5. Pigeon Pose (Eka Pada Rajakapotasana): A deep hip-opening posture that relieves lower back tension and improves posture.

6. Triangle Pose (Trikonasana): Improves balance while stretching the legs and spine and opening the chest.

7. Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana): A gentle backbend that strengthens the spine and improves upper body flexibility.

Guidelines for Practicing Yoga Safely

Yoga should be practised with awareness and patience. Avoid forcing your body into positions beyond its limits. Gradual progression ensures sustainable flexibility without injury.

Breathing plays a crucial role. Deep, controlled breathing helps relax muscles and improve stretch efficiency.

Consistency is key. Regular practice yields better, longer-lasting results than occasional intense sessions.
