Mitigation vs Adaptation: What Should Be the Priority ? Ms. Simran Pramodkumar Yadav Dr Pratima Mishra (Mentor) Associate Professor HGM Azam College of Education Dr P A Inamdar University, Pune, Maharashtra   Ø          Ø   INTRODUCTION Climate Change: The Dual Imperative of Mitigation and Adaptation Climate change stands as one of the most formidable challenges confronting humanity in the 21st century. Its manifestations—rising global temperatures, melting glaciers, erratic rainfall patterns, and intensifying natural disasters—have disrupted ecological balance and human livelihoods alike. These phenomena demand urgent and multidimensional responses that go beyond mere acknowledgment of the crisis. Within the global discourse, two strategic approaches have emerged as central pillars of climate action: mitigation and adaptation. Mitigation refers to proactive efforts aimed at reducing or preventing the emission of g...

“Deforestation and Its Impact on Global Climate” Jasmine Zakir Shaikh (Mentee) Dr. Pratima Mishra Associate Professor (Mentor) H.G.M Azam College of Education Dr P.A. Inamdar University, Azam Campus, Pune, Maharashtra, India. Deforestation, driven primarily by agriculture (80% of forest loss), urbanization, and logging, is a major driver of global climate change. It accelerates climate change by releasing stored carbon dioxide (CO ₂ ) into the atmosphere, decreasing the planet's capacity to absorb greenhouse gases, and disrupting eco systems. Key Impacts of Deforestation on Global Climate: Increased Greenhouse Gases:  Forests act as carbon sinks, storing enormous amounts of carbon. When trees are cut and burned, this carbon is released as, contributing directly to the greenhouse effect. Reduced Carbon Absorption:  The loss of trees means less photosynthesis, decreasing the Earth's ability to remove from the atmosphere. Temperature Alteration:  Reduced forest c...
